MIAMI, FL. (September 2019) Care Resource Community Health Centers, Inc. will not host The White Party™ this November. This autumn, in lieu of The White Party, the health center is hosting its 5th Annual United for Care (U4C) health fair at the Culmer Community Action Center located at 1600 NW 3rd Avenue in Historic Overtown.
The United For Care U4C health fair unites local health organizations and community-based support agencies to address barriers to care associated with social determinants of health, which include economic stability, neighborhood and physical environment, education, stigma, social context, and trust in the health care system. U4C significantly directs primary care resources in response to this growing need.
U4C provides access to a variety of no-cost health and wellness screenings, HIV testing, health care navigation, behavioral health services, spiritual counseling, Blood sugar testing, blood pressure screenings, Flu shots, Diabetes and pre-diabetes screenings and more. In partnership with Feeding South Florida, Food For Life Network food pantry will also be distributing food and pantry items, until supplies last.
This high-impact health fair directly reduces barriers to accessing high-quality health and HIV care and further improves linkage and long-term engagement in HIV care. Attendees of this health fair often do not have access to many kinds of testing and may have multiple undiagnosed or untreated chronic conditions. This opportunity provides vital, no-cost medical care to address multiple health concerns.
In South Florida, the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach metropolitan area led the nation in new HIV diagnoses in 2017, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In Miami-Dade County and Broward County, there were 1,892 new HIV diagnoses in 2017 combined. Certain populations also face additional barriers to accessing high-quality HIV care, resulting in substantial disparities that persist throughout the HIV care continuum.
