Samara Nascimento dos Santos, RMHCI, Clinical Counselor I

Biography

Samara Nascimento dos Santos received her Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Nova Southeastern University and is a Registered Clinical Mental Health Counseling Intern.

Samara was born and raised in Brazil and brings international experience to her field, having graduated with a Bachelor of Psychology in Brazil. Samara is fluent in Portuguese, English, and Spanish. She believes that her background has influenced her to gain multicultural competence in counseling by providing a welcoming environment where clients can feel understood for their uniqueness and, therefore, have positive outcomes.

Before moving to the United States, she worked in the welfare sector for a federal agency. Upon moving to South Florida, she earned a certificate in Health Strategic Management Training through the University of Miami. Samara has experience serving the community; she is a Florida Board Certified Behavioral Health Case Manager (CBHCM), and while working as a case manager, she assisted clients with community resources and advocacy. Samara also has experience with clients living with severe and persistent mental illness who were involved in the criminal justice system. Through mental health and psychosocial rehabilitation services, she assisted clients in their transition from a hospital or penal institution into an independent, less restrictive environment, as well as helping them to achieve control over their mental illness.

Samara believes in a holistic approach; her main theoretical orientations are CBT – Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Adlerian Therapy (also known as Individual Psychology), which focuses primarily on an individual’s personality and their ability to change their own lives through behavioral alterations. She strongly believes in the power we all possess to make positive changes and is passionate about helping people improve their lives.
