Take action to prevent the spread of Influenza (Flu)
What are the benefits of getting the Influenza Vaccine?
Getting vaccinated against the flu can significantly reduce your risk of getting sick with influenza. Even if you do get the flu, vaccination may make your illness milder, reduce the severity of symptoms, and decrease your chances of flu-related doctor’s visits, hospitalizations. It also may help protect vulnerable individuals around you by reducing the spread of the virus. (CDC)
Are there any common side effects from the Influenza Vaccine?
Most side effects from the Influenza Vaccine are mild and temporary. They may include soreness, redness, or swelling at the injection site, headache, muscle aches, and fatigue. These typically disappear on their own within a few days. Severe allergic reactions are rare but can occur. (CDC)
Can I get my Influenza Vaccine at the same time as other vaccines, like COVID-19 or RSV?
Yes, for eligible patients, flu, COVID-19, and RSV vaccines may be administered at the same visit. This coadministration is a safe and convenient way to stay protected against multiple respiratory illnesses. Please discuss your vaccination needs with your Care Resource healthcare provider to determine the best approach for you. (CDC) (AMA)
Why do I need a Influenza Vaccine every year?
Flu viruses are constantly changing, and new strains emerge each year. The influenza vaccine is updated annually to target the strains most likely to circulate during the upcoming flu season. Additionally, the protection provided by the Influenza Vaccine decreases over time, making annual vaccination essential to maintain optimal immunity. Even if vaccine effectiveness varies, vaccination may significantly reduce the risk of severe illness, complications and hospitalization. (CDC)
When is the best time to get my Influenza Vaccine?
While vaccination should continue throughout the flu season as long as viruses are circulating, it is generally recommended to get vaccinated in September or October for optimal protection before flu activity typically increases in the Winter. (AMA)
