From Stigma to Support: How Care Resource Is Helping End HIV Stigma in South Florida

Jul 21, 2026

Two people hugging in front of a yellow background, symbolizing support and HIV stigma reduction.Despite decades of medical advances, HIV stigma remains one of the biggest barriers to prevention, testing, treatment, and overall well-being. Misinformation, fear, and judgment can discourage people from accessing the care and support they need.

According to the CDC, HIV-related stigma continues to negatively impact health outcomes and can prevent individuals from seeking testing, prevention services, and treatment.

At Care Resource, we believe everyone deserves compassionate, affirming, and high-quality healthcare. Through education, prevention programs, comprehensive HIV treatment, and community outreach, we are working to create a South Florida where people can access care without fear of stigma or discrimination.

“Reducing HIV stigma starts with education, empathy, and access to care. When people feel supported and informed, they are more likely to get tested, stay engaged in treatment, and live healthier lives.”
Jairo Farinas
Health Promotion & Prevention Field Supervisor

Five Ways Care Resource Is Reducing HIV Stigma

1. Creating Welcoming and Inclusive Care Environments

Care Resource fosters a judgment-free healthcare experience where patients are treated with dignity, respect, and confidentiality. We recognize that everyone’s healthcare journey is unique, and our team is committed to meeting patients where they are.

2. Providing Comprehensive HIV Education

Misinformation continues to fuel HIV stigma. Through community outreach, health education initiatives, and prevention programs, we help individuals understand the facts about HIV transmission, treatment, and prevention.

By promoting accurate information, we empower people to make informed decisions about their health and challenge outdated misconceptions about HIV.

3. Expanding Access to HIV Testing and Prevention

Knowing your status is a critical step in protecting your health. Care Resource offers HIV testing services and prevention resources, including PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis), which can significantly reduce the risk of acquiring HIV when taken as prescribed.

Increasing access to testing and prevention helps normalize HIV conversations and reduces fear around HIV status.

4. Supporting People Living with HIV Through Comprehensive Care

Modern HIV treatment allows people living with HIV to lead long, healthy lives. Individuals who achieve and maintain an undetectable viral load through treatment cannot sexually transmit HIV, a concept known as Undetectable = Untransmittable (U=U). This scientific advancement helps combat outdated stereotypes and supports a more informed understanding of HIV.

Care Resource provides comprehensive medical care, case management, behavioral health services, and support programs designed to help patients thrive.

5. Engaging the Community Through Outreach

Care Resource works throughout South Florida to raise awareness about HIV prevention, testing, and treatment. Through outreach events, community partnerships, and health education initiatives, we help individuals access services and connect with trusted healthcare resources.

By meeting people where they are and promoting open conversations about HIV, we help reduce stigma and encourage healthier communities.

Building a Healthier, More Compassionate Community

Ending HIV stigma requires all of us to play a role. Whether through education, prevention, treatment, or advocacy, every action helps create a more inclusive and supportive community.

At Care Resource, we remain committed to advancing health equity, expanding access to care, and supporting individuals affected by HIV throughout South Florida.
