MIAMI, FL (NOVEMBER 12, 2014) – Care Resource, a Miami-based nonprofit organization, announces the inauguration of its new, custom-made mobile Health Promotion Units, which will benefit disadvantaged communities in South Florida. Care Resource seeks out areas where underserved populations are isolated, and reaches out to people who might otherwise go uneducated and screened about their health.

Care Resource is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) and provides primary medical services. Members of the community who are uninsured or underinsured are able to seek care through the available sliding-fee scale program, which is based on a client’s income and household size.  Additional services include, but are not limited to, dental care, women’s and family services, pharmacy services,  specialized HIV care and treatment, behavioral health and substance abuse services, case management, and free HIV testing and STD screenings.

“Our new mobile units are customized to provide prospective clients with a great level of comfort, and the same assurance of quality service that we’ve always offered at our office locations,” says
Ron Ledain, Health Promotion & Prevention Manager of Care Resource. “It will bring information and services to people who might not be able to come to us, due to limitations such as transportation, time and availability.”

The Health Promotion Units will offer free wellness screenings, such as glucose and cholesterol testing, and blood pressure readings. In addition, free rapid HIV testing, and condoms, will be available to all patrons. Clients who receive any unhealthy results will be linked to Care Resource’s highly-trained medical staff in a timely manner. Referrals and appointments to obtain additional assistance and support will be provided as needed.

According to Rick Siclari, CEO of Care Resource, “These new, custom-made mobile Health Promotion Units are another way for Care Resource to strategically drive into isolated areas and improve upon the health of individuals and families in our community. Thank you State Senator René García for advocating for funding from the state of Florida’s health budget to successfully make these units a reality.”

As an FQHC, Care Resource is uniquely positioned and fully-equipped to respond to the health needs of all individuals. Through education, prevention, research, care, treatment and support services,

Care Resource will continue to serve the South Florida community, as it has for more than 30 years.
