It is with profound sadness that Care Resource Community Health Centers shares the passing of our Chief Executive Officer, Karin Sabey.
Though we had far less time with Karin than we had hoped, her impact on our organization was profound and lasting. She brought a remarkable combination of vision, energy, authenticity, and optimism. From the moment she joined Care Resource, she challenged us to think differently, embrace change, and continually ask how we could better serve our patients, employees, and community.
Karin brought more than two decades of healthcare and nonprofit leadership experience to Care Resource. However, those who worked alongside her will remember far more than her credentials.
She was approachable, spontaneous, and deeply engaged in the work around her. She brought curiosity, candor, and a genuine desire to connect with people. Whether she was walking through one of our health centers, meeting with staff, visiting community partners, or discussing a new idea, those qualities were always evident.
Throughout her time at Care Resource, Karin often spoke about the importance of meeting people where they are, removing barriers to care, and ensuring that every individual is treated with dignity and compassion. These beliefs were not simply part of her leadership philosophy. They were reflected in the way she lived, led, and built relationships throughout our organization.
Karin helped guide Care Resource through a period of growth and transformation while remaining steadfastly focused on our mission. She celebrated the organization’s accomplishments not as individual achievements, but as the collective work of dedicated employees committed to improving the lives of others.
Most importantly, she believed deeply in the power of community health centers to change lives and strengthen communities.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Karin’s husband, family, friends, colleagues, patients, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. We are grateful for her leadership, her friendship, and the example she set for all of us.
As we mourn this tremendous loss, we also celebrate a life dedicated to service. Although her tenure at Care Resource was brief, the impact she made on our organization and the people we serve will endure for years to come.
In accordance with the organization’s succession plan, the Board of Directors has appointed Maria Torres-Martinez as Acting Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. Maria will provide leadership and continuity during this transition.
As we move forward, we do so guided by the values Karin Sabey championed and the mission she embraced so wholeheartedly. The greatest tribute we can offer is to continue the work she believed in so deeply: caring for our community with compassion, dignity, and excellence.
