As one of the most cost-burdened regions in the country, South Florida faces an acute affordable housing crisis. Care Resource’s housing assistance programs are vital to helping individuals and families in need secure safe, stable housing. Supported by $11.7 million in funding from various federal, state, and private sources, the organization served more than 1,400 individuals and families in 2023.
Programs like Short-Term Rent, Mortgage, and Utility (STRMU) assistance, Permanent Housing Placement (PHP), and Tenant-Based Long-Term Rental Assistance (TBRA) are integral to Care Resource’s mission. The Housing Opportunities for Persons Living with HIV/AIDS (HOPWA) initiative enhances these services and ensures housing stability for low-income individuals living with HIV/AIDS.
In addition to these programs, Care Resource supports LGBTQ+ individuals, particularly transgender persons, through the SURE Housing Initiative, a research-based program designed to improve health and housing outcomes. Other key efforts include Permanent Supportive Housing, Rapid Re-Housing, and outreach programs that connect vulnerable individuals to comprehensive health and housing services.
“Access to stable housing is a cornerstone of overall health and well-being, Our team is committed to providing the resources and support that individuals and families need to achieve stability, especially during times of rising housing costs.” Rafael Jimenez, MS, Director of Social Services at Care Resource.
By integrating housing assistance with medical care, mental health services, and substance use support, Care Resource ensures a holistic approach to addressing housing.
