National Recovery Month: Celebrating Progress and Finding Support

National Recovery MonthSeptember marks National Recovery Month, a time to honor the journey of individuals overcoming substance use disorders and mental health challenges. It’s a powerful reminder of the resilience of those in recovery and a call to support those still on their path.

Emelina Martinez, Safe Syringe Exchange Services Manager at The SPOT™ and Care Resource, emphasizes, We work with individuals living with substance use disorder at every stage, with peer members on staff to guide clients through behavioral health and medical services. We also provide Narcan to clients and community members in need.

How to Seek Support
If you or someone you know is struggling with substance use or mental health challenges, seeking support is key to recovery. Here’s how you can start:

  • Reach Out to Loved Ones: Family and friends offer essential emotional support and encouragement. Talking to them may be your first step toward professional help.
  • Consult Healthcare Professionals: Medical experts can guide treatment options and connect you to specialized services.
  • Join Support Groups: Peer groups like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA) offer a safe space to share experiences and learn from others.
  • Explore Therapy: Counseling with licensed professionals can help address root causes of substance use and develop coping strategies.
  • Contact Care Resource: Care Resource provides comprehensive health and recovery services. Call us at 305-576-1234 for information.
  • Contact The SPOT: The SPOT (Special Purpose Outreach Team) mobile clinic is the only Syringe Services Program in Broward County, authorized by the Florida Infectious Disease Elimination Act (IDEA). Contact them at 954-566-SPOT (7768) for support.

As we observe National Recovery Month, let’s celebrate those in recovery and renew our dedication to supporting those still on their journey. Whether seeking help for yourself or someone else, remember that recovery is possible with the right resources. Together, we can raise awareness, reduce stigma, and foster a community that supports recovery for all.
