Every year, the Latinos en Accion Leadership group selects outstanding individuals who are devoted to the welfare of humanity and whose accomplishments are consistent with the core values of the coalition. The Hispanic HIV Leadership Awards is an initiative born from the need of recognizing the efforts of outstanding individuals or groups in their efforts of raising HIV/AIDS awareness in the Latino communities of Broward County.
The 2016 awards ceremony took place at the Diversity Night on October 5th at Hunters Night Club in Wilton Manors. Congratulations to all Leadership Awards recipients. Below are those from Care Resource that received an award:
• Jessmarie Gonzalez, Health Promotion and Marketing Associate with Care Resource won the Louis Curbelo Leadership Award. This award is given to a long time or emerging leader committed to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS in the Latino community of Broward County.
• Edith Garcia, Case Management Services Manager with Care Resource was awarded the Fulgencio Aponte Community Service Award. This award is given to a group, business or individual that has supported the work of the Latino committee with time, resources, ideas or a helping hand.
Latinos en Acción is an active partnership among the local Organizations, the Broward County Health Department, and concerned citizens. The group is a committed and innovative community organizing initiative established since 2004.
Care Resource is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization and a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) with locations in Miami-Dade and Broward counties. Care Resource provides comprehensive primary medical and preventive care, including dental care, in-house pharmacy services and behavioral health/substance abuse services to all individuals in South Florida’s diverse communities.
