Biography
Troy O’Neill is a Registered Mental Health Counseling Intern (RMHCI) with a Master of Science (MS) in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Florida International University. His clinical experiences have allowed him to practice using different modalities with a variety of populations allowing him to be effective with those from a multitude of backgrounds.
Troy has prior experience working in residential mental health settings, assisting adults with eating disorders, depression, anxiety, LGBTQIA+ issues, and trauma. He’s worked with children, young adults, adults, and seniors. He’s passionate about early intervention and believes in meeting clients where they are in order to help them establish and work towards their goals.
Troy uses an integrative approach to therapy, using a foundation of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and taking aspects of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT). He also appreciates the benefits of group therapy and is able to effectively use the values that come from the support and sense of community with others. He believes that empathy is the most important thing a person can have, in and out of the therapy room, and chooses to practice and teach that whenever the opportunity comes up.
