Recognizing the Professionals Behind Substance Use Recovery

Oct 29, 2019

Addressing substance use disorders requires more than treatment programs alone. Recovery often begins with dedicated healthcare professionals who provide compassionate care, evidence-based treatment, and ongoing support for individuals seeking a healthier future.

Behavioral health providers play a critical role in helping patients navigate the challenges of substance use disorder treatment. Through counseling, care coordination, and integrated healthcare services, they help individuals access resources to begin and sustain recovery. Care Resource’s behavioral health team remains committed to delivering that support throughout South Florida.

Care Resource behavioral health professionals recognized by HRSA for their commitment to expanding access to substance use disorder treatment and recovery support in communities with significant healthcare needs.

In 2019, several Care Resource behavioral health providers were selected by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to participate in the Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Loan Repayment Program. The program recognized licensed clinicians who provide treatment for substance use disorders in communities experiencing healthcare workforce shortages and high rates of substance use.

Among those recognized were Cari Baumgardner, LMHC, Clinical Counselor, Clayton Harrison, LMHC, MCAP, NCC, MFTI, Clinical Counselor, and Sherly Constant, LCSW, MCAP, Lead Clinical Counselor.

Their selection reflected a shared commitment to expanding access to behavioral healthcare and substance use disorder treatment for underserved populations throughout South Florida. The recognition highlighted the importance of clinicians who dedicate their careers to serving communities where access to care is often limited.

Meeting the Growing Need for Substance Use Disorder Treatment

Substance use disorders continue to affect individuals, families, and communities across the country. As a result, expanding access to treatment remains an important public health priority, particularly in areas where behavioral healthcare resources may be limited.

Community health centers help address this need by providing comprehensive services that support both physical and behavioral health. This integrated approach makes it easier for patients to receive coordinated care and connect with the resources needed for long-term recovery.

The Role of Behavioral Health Professionals

Recovery is a personal journey, and no two experiences are the same. Behavioral health professionals help individuals develop coping strategies, address underlying challenges, and build the tools needed to maintain long-term wellness.

These services may include:

  • Individual counseling
  • Mental health support
  • Substance use disorder treatment
  • Care coordination
  • Recovery planning
  • Referrals to support services and community resources

Additionally, behavioral health providers often serve as trusted partners throughout the recovery process. Their guidance can help patients overcome barriers, remain engaged in treatment, and achieve meaningful progress.

How Medication-Assisted Treatment Supports Recovery

A key part of Care Resource’s integrated care model is Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT). MAT combines FDA-approved medications with counseling and behavioral health services to provide a patient-centered approach to substance use disorder treatment.

At Care Resource, behavioral health and medical providers work closely together to address both physical and emotional health needs. This collaborative model helps patients receive comprehensive care while strengthening their recovery journey.

By combining medical care, counseling, and ongoing support, MAT can improve treatment outcomes and help individuals build a stronger foundation for long-term recovery.

Recognition Reflects a Commitment to Care

The HRSA recognition received by Care Resource clinicians reflects more than individual achievement. It highlights the essential role behavioral health professionals play in addressing substance use disorders and supporting recovery within underserved communities.

The recognition also reinforces Care Resource’s commitment to providing high-quality, integrated healthcare services for individuals facing complex behavioral and physical health challenges. By investing in experienced providers and evidence-based care models, the health center continues to expand access to treatment and support services throughout South Florida.

Supporting Recovery Through Integrated Care

Substance use disorder treatment is most effective when individuals have access to comprehensive support services. Integrated care models bring together medical providers, behavioral health specialists, case managers, and other professionals who work collaboratively to address each patient’s unique needs.

This team-based approach helps patients navigate treatment, connect with community resources, and receive personalized support throughout their recovery journey.

Furthermore, integrated care can reduce barriers that interfere with treatment while making it easier for patients to remain engaged and focused on their health goals.

Looking Ahead

Recovery is possible when individuals have access to compassionate providers, evidence-based treatment, and a strong support system. Behavioral health professionals remain at the center of that work, helping individuals and families navigate challenges while building healthier futures.

At Care Resource, we remain committed to expanding access to substance use disorder treatment, behavioral health services, and integrated care throughout South Florida. By supporting both patients and the professionals who serve them, we can continue strengthening communities and improving lives.
