Protect Access to Affordable and Necessary Medications

Help Keep Our Community’s Healthcare Safety Net Strong

Advocacy MDDrug manufacturers are jeopardizing the future of the 340B Program, which allows healthcare providers like Care Resource to give our patients lifesaving medications at a discounted and affordable price, and to provide expanded services and charity care, both of which are made possible by this program’s revenue.

An increasing number of these manufacturers are refusing to sell discounted medications to healthcare providers who do not have their own in-house pharmacy, and others will only sell discounted medications if health centers submit sensitive claims data to their online portals, threatening patient privacy.

Their actions directly hurt our patients by disrupting their access to affordable and necessary medications and endangering their privacy, and hurts healthcare providers like Care Resource, preventing us from expanding our services, hiring more staff, and providing charity care to those who need it most.

According to the Florida Association of Community Health Centers, Care Resource provided close to $12 million in charitable care to the uninsured last year, and our health center created an overall economic impact of $127.1 million within our community, and generated 695 jobs throughout South Florida. Without the revenue generated by the 340B Program, Care Resource will lose much-needed support for our charity care initiatives, and our economic impact in South Florida will suffer dramatically.

Please contact your Florida Federal Senators and Representatives and request their support in keeping the 340B Program strong. Keep the healthcare safety net strong in your community!

SAMPLE LETTER

Dear Senator (NAME),

My name is (insert name) and I live in (state/city). I am writing to request that you and your fellow legislators ensure the HHS continues to enforce the 340B Program.

The 340B Program allows healthcare providers like my local Federally Qualified Health Center to give their patients lifesaving medications at a discounted and affordable price, and to provide expanded services and charity care.

An increasing number of drug manufacturers are now refusing to sell discounted medications to healthcare providers like my local FQHC that do not have their own in-house pharmacy, and others will continue to participate in the 340B Program only if health centers submit sensitive claims data to their online portals, threatening patient privacy.

The actions of these drug manufacturers are disrupting our ability to access affordable and lifesaving medications and endangering our privacy.

My local FQHC is also hurt by their actions. Without the revenue created by the 340B Program, they will not be able to expand their services, or continue providing much-needed charity care.

My community will suffer without affordable healthcare and from the economic impact of losing the revenue brought in by the 340B program.

Respectfully Yours,
