How At-Home HIV Testing Expands Access to Care
Knowing your HIV status is one of the most important steps you can take to protect your health. Yet for many individuals, barriers such as transportation, scheduling conflicts, privacy concerns, stigma, or limited access to healthcare can make testing more difficult.
To help address these challenges, Care Resource offers an at-home HIV testing program that brings testing directly to individuals throughout South Florida. The program expands access to HIV testing while helping connect people to prevention services, treatment, and ongoing healthcare support.
Bringing Care to the Community
Traditional healthcare services do not always meet the needs of every individual. At-home testing creates a more accessible option for those who may be unable or unwilling to visit a testing site in person.
Through the program, participants receive guidance from trained testing counselors who provide support throughout the testing process and help ensure individuals understand their results and next steps.
By reducing barriers to care, the program helps more people access essential HIV prevention and testing services.
The Importance of Early HIV Testing
Early HIV testing remains one of the most effective tools in preventing the spread of HIV and improving health outcomes.
When individuals know their status, they can make informed decisions about their health and access appropriate prevention or treatment services. For those who test positive, early linkage to care can improve long-term health outcomes and help individuals live healthy, productive lives.
For those who test negative, testing provides an opportunity to learn about prevention options, including PrEP, safer sex practices, and routine screening.
Community Partnerships Make Innovation Possible
The success of innovative programs often depends on the support of community partners.
In 2021, Regions Bank provided funding that helped support the growth of Care Resource’s at-home HIV testing program. Contributions from community-minded organizations help expand access to healthcare services and ensure more individuals can receive the support they need.
Care Resource remains grateful for the support of partners who share a commitment to improving health outcomes and expanding access to care throughout South Florida.
Looking Ahead
As healthcare continues to evolve, innovative approaches such as at-home HIV testing play an important role in reaching individuals where they are and reducing barriers to care.
Care Resource remains committed to expanding access to testing, prevention, treatment, and support services while helping build healthier communities across South Florida.
