Biography
Dr. Dorothy A. Holmes was born and reared in Miami. She is the fifth of seven children. She was educated in the Dade County Public Schools system. After completing high school in 1967 from Mays Jr. and Sr. High School, Dr. Holmes graduated from Miami-Dade Community College. She then attended Florida A &M University and later graduated from Florida International University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. In 1981 she obtained a Master degree in Social Work from Barry University, and in 1991 she obtained her doctor of philosophy degree in psychology from Miami Institute of Psychology.
As a psychologist, Dr. Holmes worked in the Florida Juvenile Justice system and the adult criminal system as a forensic psychologist. She is currently a psychologist with the Florida State Office of Disability Determination and Jessie Trice Community Health Center. Her profession includes work with children, adults, families, substance abusers, disability issues, and individuals living with HIV/AIDS. She is the owner of Dorothy A. Holmes Psychological Services, Inc.
Dr. Holmes was a past President of “The Association of Black Psychologists”, past president of the Board of Directors of Care Resource, and current member of the local chapter of “The Association of Black Psychologists, South Florida Chapter.” Dr. Holmes also is a member of the New Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church.
