Care Resource Introduces At-Home HIV Testing Program

Access to Self-Testing and Support in Broward and Miami-Dade Counties

Care Resource has implemented an at-home HIV testing program for individuals living in Broward and Miami-Dade counties that have not previously tested positive for HIV or been tested within three months. This is a unique opportunity for one to further access HIV testing services during COVID-19.

This program enables our health center to further support the community in the fight against HIV/AIDS. In light of the challenges that have accompanied COVID-19, it is still important that we maintain our sexual health and general wellness. South Florida is home to one of the nation’s highest rates of new HIV diagnoses, deeming it essential that residents continue to access essential testing and linkage into quality care.

After submitting a form through the link provided below, a testing counselor will contact each client in order to conduct a risk assessment within 24-48 hours. Following the assessment, the counselor will discuss three delivery methods of the OraQuick testing kit, which adhere to social distancing guidelines.

The OraQuick is an oral and in-home HIV test that is clinically proven and FDA-approved. After completing the test in the comfort and privacy of home, and receiving the results within twenty minutes, the individual will report their results to a testing counselor. Following a positive result, clients can access compassionate and supportive Care Resource testing counselors, and behavioral health and medical providers for next steps.

“Care Resource had to discontinue street outreach and mobile unit testing in support of community efforts to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in both Miami-Dade and Broward counties. However, alternative methods of reaching and serving at-risk populations are in place, including the launch of a supported at-home HIV testing program in collaboration with our local county health departments. Through this program, individuals can opt to receive their HIV testing kit at home and access a full counseling and testing session over the phone. The program demonstrates Care Resource’s unwavering commitment to the fight against HIV, while addressing the specific challenges of the current pandemic.” –Rick Siclari, CEO
