Care Resource Honors Breast Cancer Awareness Month

“Let’s Work ToGetHer” Access to Essential Women’s Healthcare

Breast Cancer AwarenessOctober is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual campaign to increase awareness surrounding the disease. The theme for the month is “Let’s Work ToGetHer,” – as it speaks to the power a community has to help deliver access to education, screening, treatment, support, and hope to individuals battling breast cancer, despite their circumstances.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), while black and white women get breast cancer at about the same rate, breast cancer death rates are 40% higher among black women than white women. In addition, the CDC’s findings established that breast cancer was more likely to be found at an earlier stage among white women than among black women. For this reason, Care Resource is dedicated to providing underserved communities with access to equitable and quality healthcare, including 3D mammograms.

“To extend opportunities for breast cancer screenings and access to mammograms, Care Resource partnered with Florida Mammography Mobile. This partnership brought the mobile MammoVan to South Florida’s women. Mammograms are essential and allow doctors to identify breast cancer as early as three years before it can be felt. It is essential that all women learn their family history of cancer, understand their risk, and make healthy lifestyle choices to lower it.”- Alicia Lee-Clarke, Clinical Services Manager at Care Resource

Our medical providers have integrated best practices and considerations for women’s health into their practices, making the health center a safe space for all women. Encourage a woman in your life to tend to her health this month, and let’s stop illness before it starts.
