On December 12, the Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County celebrated its annual “Test Miami” service awards. Care Resource, along with many other allied agencies that serve the community alongside the Department of Health were honored for achievements in testing, linkage to care and other services.
For the second year, Care Resource was awarded the title of “Best PrEP Agency.” The award recognized the health center’s commitment and leadership in using biomedical prevention strategies to help diverse at-risk communities with ongoing access to PrEP. Through networking and referrals, Care Resource continues to help expand access and increase uptake of PrEP throughout the county. Through the combined efforts of these alliances, Care Resource has been at the forefront.
Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis and Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) continue to be an exciting biomedical strategy to help prevent an HIV infection before it happens. The responsible use of these prevention methods, in combination with safer sex practices, can help bring about real change.
The “Test Miami” initiative is a collaborative effort between the Florida Department of Health and the Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County, community-based and faith-based organizations, health care providers, universities, city, county, state and national officials, as well as, concerned citizens that aim to end the HIV/AIDS epidemic, a major health threat for Miami-Dade County.
