Biography
David Benjamin is a Peer Specialist at Care Resource’s Fort Lauderdale Health Center. He collaborates with a variety of organizations in Broward, West Palm Beach, and Dade County, which allows him to provide direct care for individuals living with mental and substance use challenges.
David is bilingual and can provide services to both (English & Creole-speaking patients, in need of navigational and peer support services. Additionally, David is a “Florida Board Certified” Behavioral Health Case Manager and has Five years of experience in the Behavioral Health field, working with individuals who are cooccurring with Mental Health and Substance use challenges. Mr. Benjamin has been able to assist peers, by connecting them to community resources, such as SSI/SSDI benefits, food stamps, SafeLink, PHP, IOP, OP, and adherence to medications, through psychoeducation.
Furthermore, David has worked alongside medical and insurance providers to help navigate peers effectively and efficiently through the system of care in the Tri-County area. He has assisted with obtaining both independent and transitional housing, which meets FARR (Florida Association of Recovery Residences) requirements, to help peers sustain long-term recovery and gain independence through personal and professional development.
In 2023, David became a CMI “Certified Motivational Interventionist”, which allows him to guide family members, friends, and peers through an intervention process, that encourages individuals to seek and or enter treatment while providing the family with the tools needed to support their loved ones in the process of recovery.
Moreover, David has worked in partnership with various TLGBQ+ organizations in South Florida. His lived experience with TLGBQ+ care, mental health care systems, and substance abuse makes him an essential asset to the Care Resource team and the population he serves. In 2025, he became a CRPS “Certified Recovery Peer Specialist”.
