Honoring the Differences that Make us Stronger
To celebrate the differences that make us stronger and the moments that bring us together, Care Resource recognizes and honors June 19 as an annual observance of Juneteenth Independence Day.
Juneteenth is celebrated on June 19 (the name is a combination of the words “June” and “nineteenth”) because on that date in 1865, Major General Gordon Granger of the Union Army landed in Galveston, Texas and informed slaves that the Civil War had ended and slavery had been abolished.
Following the end of the Civil War, the Juneteenth proclamation formally ended one shameful chapter of U.S. history. Today, Juneteenth is widely observed as a celebration of African American history and heritage.
Juneteenth is also a celebration of Black American life and resilience, and honors the contributions of Black Americans to this country. Juneteenth reminds us that real change, though often frustrating and painful, is possible.
Care Resource honors Juneteenth and stands against racism.“We embrace diversity. We honor all voices and are committed to providing compassionate, competent and committed care to all of South Florida’s diverse communities in need every day.” – Rick Siclari, MBA, Chief Executive Officer
