A Celebration of Resilience and Triumph
Care Resource’s Youth Advisory Board (YAB) is hosting a special screening of Project Griot’s film “Outrun the Sky,” and post-viewing community dialogue.
This showing is in collaboration with THRIVESS, the World AIDS Museum, CAOBA, Ujima, Inc., The National Center on Violence Against Women in the Black Community and Broward House, and will take place on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 from 7:00pm to 10pm at the World AIDS Museum (1201 NE 26th St., Wilton Manors).
The film details the lives of five black gay men living with HIV/AIDS across the five regions with the highest rate of new cases.
The strength of the 5 men willing to share their personal journeys of living with HIV is the anchor to this project, shining a light on the true issues within the black LGBTQ Community. From dancing to disclosure, resilience to religion, addiction to appointments, Outrun the Sky touches on social and cultural factors that are often overlooked in conversations about HIV.
The YAB is committed to supporting their fellow peers and friends and empowering them to make healthy choices by connecting them to local resources and offering education related to a variety of health, wellness, and social topics. Members help implement peer-led health education outreach efforts on a variety of health issues. In addition, the YAB is often involved in the development of educational activities and awareness events in their communities, often in conjunction with local organizations and health observances. YAB coordinates workshops on relevant health topics such as sexual health and prevention, sexual violence, alcohol and other drugs, stress relief and more.
Food and refreshments will be served. Free HIV and STI testing are available onsite. For more information about the film, please visit
