2023 Donor Impact Report

CEO Message

As we approach the end of the year, I’m excited to highlight the significant impact you’ve made in tackling some of our community’s most pressing challenges.

Your contributions, alongside other funding, have improved health outcomes and have also been a catalyst for transforming the lives of vulnerable individuals in our community.

At our recent Annual Employee Meeting, Juan courageously shared his journey from addiction and homelessness to becoming a productive member of society, all thanks to the support he received from Care Resource. You can witness his inspiring testimony here.

The Care Resource team is profoundly grateful for the difference you’ve made. Together, we’ve exceeded expectations, touching the hearts and lives of those in need.

I invite you to explore our Donor Impact Report, a testament to the extraordinary contributions of supporters like you throughout the year.

Yet, our work is far from complete. The challenges facing our community persist and evolve. With your ongoing support, we are actively working towards our vision to expand health services and care to meet the ever-changing needs of underserved populations in South Florida.

Our warmest wishes to you and your family this holiday season.

Visionary Gifts Address the Opioid Epidemic in Broward County

Leadership gifts totaling more than $1.2 million from Dr. Peter B. Cinelli, Joy Fishman of the Fishman Foundation, the Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA), and Gilead Sciences set in motion the creation of a new innovative Behavioral Health Center.

Ongoing client services will be provided from various resources including funding from the Broward Behavioral Health Coalition. These donations play a crucial role in addressing Broward’s opioid crisis.

Conceived by its Director, Dr. Thomas Smith, the new Behavioral Health Center will comprehensively address the medical and behavioral health needs of individuals grappling with mental health and substance use disorders, particularly those suffering from opioid addiction who are undergoing medication-assisted treatment (MAT).

Anticipating a significant surge in the demand for services, the Center is expected to open in 2024 and serve over 4,000 patients annually—a remarkable 108% increase from current levels. This reflects the pressing need for accessible and effective mental health, medical, and addiction services in Broward County.

With a price tag of an estimated $2.5 million, community support is crucial for completing the building and expanding services to combat the opioid epidemic. Join Care Resource—make your contribution today.

Advance Auto Parts Foundation Funds New Health Promotion Mobile Unit for Broward County’s Underserved Populations

Our heartfelt thanks go to the Advance Auto Parts Foundation for their generous grant of $50,000 to support the purchase of a new Health Promotion Mobile Unit to serve an estimated 2,000 underserved individuals per year.

Once operational, the mobile unit provides health and wellness screenings and linkage to care in areas where underserved populations are isolated. It works in tandem with Care Resource’s community partners to deliver services at health fairs, community events, and partner sites.

This contribution was matched by a Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) H8F grant to complete the purchase and customization of the unit. The Advance Auto Parts Foundation supports initiatives that emphasize the health and well-being of others, with an emphasis on underserved populations, among other priorities.

Building For The Future Capital Fund:  Because We Care

Broadening our reach and continuum of care through expanded State-Of-The-Art Health Centers

We are grateful to those organizations and individuals who have contributed to our Building for the Future Capital Fund since its inception four years ago. Most notably the Health Foundation of South Florida supported our Midtown Miami Health Center and was pivotal in our ability to acquire the Center’s medical equipment. The Medical Wing was named in their honor.

Clear Health Alliance named our new Community Room that serves as the meeting place of many of our community support groups. If you would like to learn more about naming opportunities, please contact Jonathan Welsh.

As a Federally Qualified Health Center with four primary locations in South Florida, we’ve initiated renovations, expansions, and new building acquisitions to address the significant and growing needs of our service area.

Filling gaps in federal, state, and local funding, our Building for the Future Capital Fund relies on private donations to support the most crucial areas of our capital improvement program. Over the past four years, we’ve undertaken four major capital expansion projects.

LGBT+ Funding for Seniors and General Support

We’re honored to receive a significant two-year $80,000 grant from the Ralph Lutrin and Alfred Allan Lewis Fund at The Miami Foundation. This fund, in memory of two passionate individuals, aims to uphold the dignity of community members in their later years.

This grant directly aids LGBTQ+ seniors by providing essential financial support for housing/utilities, transportation, and food. Partnering with Care Resource allows The Miami Foundation to invest in and support the LGBTQ+ senior community. Together, we make a meaningful impact.

In addition, The Miami Foundation’s LGBTQ+ Equity Fund contributed $15,000 to Care Resource to expand its LGBTQ+ community services. Funds supported a July Town Hall to address the needs of YMSM, MSM, and transgender communities and connected individuals with immediate-use resources. A portion of the gift was utilized for Care Resource’s support groups for young adults and parents addressing transition needs.

Continued support is pivotal in meeting the evolving needs of our LGBTQ+ community. With your support, we can continue to deliver more LGBTQ+ programs that will create a more inclusive and supportive future.

From Compassion to Action – Emergency Assistance Fund Boosted by $36,000 from Give Miami Day!

Thanks to the compassion of our dedicated team and the generosity of our community, Give Miami Day brought a remarkable $36,000 to our Emergency Assistance Fund. This critical support is pivotal in addressing the escalating challenges of food insecurity, homelessness, and transportation – formidable barriers preventing many from accessing vital medical care.

A staggering one-third of our patient visits grapple with these issues daily. Your generous donations play an indispensable role in transforming lives. Every dollar contributed directly aids individuals facing the harsh realities of hunger, homelessness, and transportation struggles, enabling them to access the medical care they urgently need.

Your ongoing support is the driving force behind our mission to create a healthier and more secure community for all. Thank you for being an essential part of this transformative journey.
