Providing Funding to Support Telehealth Services, Patient Hotlines, and a New At-Home HIV Testing Program
MIAMI, FL. – May 2020, Care Resource has received three grant awards totaling $1,680,000.51 from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to strengthen the health center’s response to COVID-19, further permit the health center to expand components of its COVID-19 Response Plan, protect patient health, and increase COVID-19 testing capacity.
According to Hudes Desrameaux, MPH, Chief Development Officer, “We thank the Health Resources and Services Administration for this funding that further provides the health center with enhanced capability for preventing, preparing for, and responding to COVID-19 as needs evolve within our diverse South Florida community including patient and community education.”
The funding supports telehealth services enabling the health center to communicate with symptomatic patients through virtual channels, treat quarantined patients infected with COVID-19, and help reduce the spread of the virus to mass populations and the medical staff on the front lines.
Moreover, the funding supports key patient hotlines. The COVID-19 hotlines, created in English, Haitian Kreyòl, and Spanish allow for patients to speak with a clinical manager or a well-informed operator about virus protection, COVID-19 testing, and next steps. The PEP and nPEP hotlines connect patients directly with a navigator to discuss options for HIV prevention, telehealth medical services, or assistance with emergency transportation to the health center with rides offered via Uber Health.
The funding also strengthens at-home HIV testing ensuring access to essential screening and personal protective equipment (PPE) for medical staff working on the front lines.
Care Resource is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization and a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) with four (4) locations located in Midtown Miami, Little Havana, Miami Beach, and Fort Lauderdale. We provide comprehensive health and support services to address the full health care needs of our pediatric, adolescent, and adult populations.
