Angel Perez, Behavioral Health Community Specialist (Miami)

Biography

Angel Perez is the Behavioral Health Community Specialist at Care Resource’s Midtown Miami health center. She works in partnership with various LGBTQ+ organizations in South Florida. In addition, Angel is a National Certified Interventionist, which allows her to provide targeted care to individuals struggling with social disparities, mental health, and substance use disorder. She has over 17 years of experience working with individuals who are living with HIV, or diagnosed with other sexually transmitted infections. In collaboration with the YES Institute, and The South Florida Transgender Medical Conference, Angel has been able to work as a devoted advocate to bring awareness of TLGBQ issues that affect our gender variant communities in South Florida. She has a background in paralegal studies focused on criminal justice, immigration services, and personal injury.

Angel Perez is fluent in both English and Spanish. Her lived experience with LGBTQ+ care, mental health care systems, and substance abuse makes her as an essential asset to the population she serves. Angel is also a Certified Recovery Peer Specialist (CRPS) and is Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) trained. She has a passion to volunteer during her free time and has volunteered for the Food For Life food pantry, Miami Jewish Health System’s “Pace Program,” and with Transinclusive Group.

Angel currently sits on the board of Care Resource’s program Project sTrenGth as a Board Consultant. She has also been nominated as co-chair for the Trans Tenacity Workgroup. Angel Perez says her family is the reason she was motivated to enter this field, and she recognizes the two most prominent people who fuel her inspiration, her father Martin D. Perez, and her brother Jorge Perez.

Angel states, “Everything in front of you has already been thought of. Who you see today you already ‘thought of’. You did not know it would be today. But here you are.”
