Biography
Angel Gabriel Was born and raised in San Juan Puerto Rico. Studied Classic Arts in the city Of Old San Juan since the age of 6 where he specialized in drawing, painting, charcoal and classical calligraphy. While growing up in San Juan, Angel continued his studies in arts at the Prestigious Specialized School of Visual Art called “La Central de Artes Visuales” where he studied classical painting, history of the arts and specialized in Ceramic sculpturing and hand throwing techniques under the world-renowned Ceramics professor and anthropologist Dr. Midiam Astacio.
Angel moved from Puerto Rico to Fort Lauderdale, Florida in the fall of 2003 where he studied culinary arts and management at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, International School of Culinary Arts. While enrolled at the Arts Institute he worked in many restaurants all around Broward, Palm Beach & Miami Dade Counties, as a baker, Pastry chef, fast food research and development, sous chef, caterer, and culinary management consultant.
While pursuing his studies in Culinary Arts, Angel became a member and volunteer of the MPowerment Project for many years in Fort Lauderdale. He was very involved in HIV Prevention and counseling and worked as a coordinator and tester for the program. Br. Angel has been an advocate for LGBTQ+ issues for many years and has participated and volunteered for many organizations in Broward and Miami Dade advocating for safe sex and LGBTQ+ rights.
Angel has proudly served the homeless community of Broward County as the Night Program Residential Manager at St. Laurence Chapel Homeless shelter in Pompano Beach for almost 3 years. Most recently Br. Angel spends his weekdays working in Behavioral Health as a Certified Recovery Peer Specialist for South Florida Wellness Network. He is stationed at Henderson Behavioral Health Centralized Receiving in Lauderdale Lakes working with alcohol, mental health, and substance abuse, specializing in the Opioid Crisis in Broward County. At Henderson, he provides Peer support to those in their recovery journey using his own journey of recovery.
Angel Gabriel is also on Staff at the Ancient Spanish Monastery Church and Museum of St. Bernard di Clairvaux in North Miami where he is the Director of Parish Ministries. Brother Angel Gabriel BSG is a Gregorian Friar of Brotherhood of St. Gregory, a religious community of friars within the Episcopal Church and the Anglican Communion.
