About Us

Who we are

Care Resource is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) with five (5) locations located in Midtown Miami, Little Havana, Miami Beach, and Fort Lauderdale. We provide compassionate, competent, and committed healthcare and support services to address the full health care needs of our pediatric, adolescent and adult populations.

Our mission

Through education, prevention, research, care and treatment and support services, Care Resource improves upon the health and overall quality of life of our diverse South Florida communities in need.

To expand our continuum of health services and care in response to the growing needs of the underserved and hard-to-reach populations of South Florida.

Our History

1983: Health Crisis Network (HCN) is Founded

Health Crisis Network emerges as a beacon of hope in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic, offering crisis intervention, social support, and educational programs to provide solace and guidance to those affected. It stands as a testament to the power of compassion, solidarity, and knowledge in overcoming adversity.

1985: The White Party™ is Born

The White Party™ gains prominence in Miami as one of the largest and most iconic HIV/AIDS fundraisers in the country and continued for more than 30 years. Its all-white dress code reflects a symbol of unity and solidarity in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Renowned DJs, performers, and celebrities contributed to the event’s energy and fundraising efforts supporting HIV/AIDS research, treatment, and prevention.

1988: Inaugural AIDS Walk Miami Commences

The South Florida community joins forces for the first AIDS Walk Miami, a transformative 5K walk-a-thon. This event brought together people from all backgrounds to address the impact of HIV/AIDS, foster community support, and raise public awareness. 1989: Community Research Initiative of South Florida Founded

Community Research Initiative of South Florida (CRI) blazes a pioneering trail in Miami-Dade and Broward counties by establishing the first community-based clinical trials program for HIV/AIDS. This visionary initiative, led by dedicated physicians, propels the study of widely used anti-retroviral drugs to new heights, paving the way for enhanced treatments. CRI transformed the landscape of HIV/AIDS care, offering hope, improved therapies, and a brighter future for those affected by this deadly condition.

1998: Care Resource Established by Merger of HCN and CRI

The merger of the Health Crisis Network and Community Research Initiative creates Care Resource, marking a pivotal moment in the HIV/AIDS battle. This alliance positioned Care Resource as a leading organization in South Florida, providing unparalleled support, pioneering research, and transformative resources to individuals affected by HIV/AIDS. Their impact on the community is indelible, leaving a lasting legacy in the fight against the condition.

1999: HIV/AIDS Primary Medical Care Implemented

With vital funding from the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program, a groundbreaking system of care emerged, transforming the landscape of HIV/AIDS healthcare in Miami-Dade County. This visionary program established a framework to swiftly triage individuals living with HIV, ensuring their seamless integration into a network of medical care and supportive services. Those affected by HIV found a lifeline of compassion, expertise, and holistic support, ushering in a new era of comprehensive care that profoundly impacted their lives.

2002: HIV Primary Medical Care Expands to Broward

Care Resource implements its innovative system of HIV primary medical care in Broward County, establishing an all-inclusive framework for medical services and supportive care for individuals living with HIV. This lifeline of compassion, expertise, and holistic support ushered in a transformative era of comprehensive care, profoundly impacting the lives of those affected by HIV.

2004: Food For Life Network Joins Care Resource

Food for Life Network, a longstanding food pantry nourishing individuals affected by HIV/AIDS since 1987, joins forces with Care Resource. With shared dedication, Care Resource and the Food for Life Network uplift the lives of the HIV/AIDS community, providing nourishment, hope, and a renewed sense of strength in the face of adversity.

2009: Care Resource in Ft. Lauderdale Becomes a FQHC in Broward County

Care Resource achieves the prestigious status of a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), expanding its mission to provide inclusive and accessible healthcare to South Florida’s diverse communities, especially those in need. This transformation positions Care Resource as a lifeline of essential care, championing health equity and nurturing the well-being of all individuals.

2011: Care Resource Becomes a Federally Qualified Health Center in Miami-Dade County

Care Resource’s Midtown Miami Health Center attains the esteemed designation of a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), broadening its mission to deliver inclusive and accessible healthcare to the diverse communities of South Florida, with a special focus on those in need.

2011: Dental Services Launched at Three Health Centers

In a visionary stride towards improving community health, Care Resource integrated dental care into their exceptional array of services at the Midtown Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, and Little Havana Health Centers. For underserved communities, this progressive integration signifies a lifeline to better health.

2013: Miami Beach Health Center Opens

Care Resource proudly inaugurates the Miami Beach Health Center, its third location for primary medical care and support services. This milestone solidifies its commitment to accessible and inclusive healthcare for all in South Florida.

2013: Joint Commission Accredits Care Resource

Care Resource achieves prestigious certification as a Primary Care Medical Home by The Joint Commission, affirming its patient-centered model of care. It also receives Ambulatory Health Care Accreditation, validating its commitment to providing safe, high-quality care and services.

2013: First On-site Pharmacy Opens

The first on-site pharmacy opens under the federal 340B Drug Pricing Program in Miami-Dade and Broward counties–a significant milestone. Patient access to affordable prescription drugs is improved, with cost savings supporting critical services and expanding healthcare access.

2014: Little Havana Health Center Opens as FQHC

Care Resource extends its reach as a Federally Qualified Health Center, offering primary medical care and support services to those residing in Little Havana and surrounding areas solidifying its commitment to serving South Florida’s diverse communities.

2014: Pediatric Care is Implemented in Miami-Dade County

Pediatric care is introduced in Miami-Dade County, offering an array of essential services to ensure that children and adolescents receive the specialized care they deserve. This initiative nurtures their health, development, and overall well-being, providing a foundation for a healthier future.

2016: Joint Commission Recognizes Behavioral Health

Care Resource achieves accreditation by The Joint Commission for its Behavioral Health program, symbolizing its unwavering commitment to maintaining high-performance standards and delivering quality care.

2017: Care Resource’s Miami Beach Health Center Becomes FQHC

Care Resource’s Miami Beach Health Center attains prestigious Federally Qualified Health Center certification, solidifying its commitment to providing comprehensive, accessible, and quality healthcare to the community.

2017: Test and Treat Program Launches in Broward County

Care Resource and the Florida Department of Health in Broward County collaborate to launch the Test and Treat Program, granting immediate access to a doctor and HIV medication for newly diagnosed and diagnosed individuals who fell out of care. This innovative initiative offers swift and comprehensive support, bridging the gap and restoring hope for those affected by HIV.

2018: Care Resource Recognized Health Center Quality Leader

Care Resource earns recognition as a Health Center Quality Leader, exceeding national clinical quality benchmarks in the areas of chronic disease management and preventive care. This accomplishment underscores Care Resource’s dedication to providing exceptional healthcare services and improving the overall health outcomes of the community it serves.

2019: Midtown Miami Health Center Breaks Ground

Care Resource commences a $33 million expansion and renovation of its Midtown Miami Health Center and Administrative Headquarters, reaffirming its commitment to accessible and comprehensive healthcare for a growing population. This visionary project profoundly impacts community well-being, further strengthening Care Resource’s role as a trusted healthcare provider in the region.

2020: Care Resource Adapts Care During COVID-19 Pandemic

In response to the global COVID-19 pandemic, Care Resource fortifies its commitment to quality services, expands healthcare access, and prioritizes the safety of patients and staff by expanding telehealth services and implementing stringent onsite safety measures.

2022: New In-House Pharmacy Services Open

Care Resource launches its own in-house pharmacy services program providing more holistic care and better outcomes for patients by enabling increased collaboration between providers and pharmacists. Cost savings are reinvested to support critical services and expand healthcare access for all.

2020: Emergency Assistance Fund Established

An emergency assistance fund is established to address critical needs of patients by providing food vouchers, rental and mortgage assistance, and at-home HIV testing, ensuring that individuals receive vital assistance they need during these challenging times.

2022: Care Resource Expands with Midtown Miami Health Center Reopening

Care Resource significantly expands access to care and revolutionizes the delivery of essential healthcare and social services by transforming its existing two-story building into a state-of-the-art, seven-story community health center, creating a comprehensive healthcare experience.
