A FREE Community Health Fair in the Heart of Historic Overtown

MIAMI, FL.  (AUGUST  2018)  – On Saturday, October 27th, Care Resource hosted the 3rd Annual United for Care (U4C) health fair at the Culmer Community Action Center located on 1600 NW 3rd Avenue in Historic Overtown.

The health fair was a great opportunity for residents of Miami-Dade to get tested for HIV and learn about services and programs that are free or affordable in their area. Attendees were able to make a future doctor’s appointment at Care Resource, and take advantage of an initial visit with basic labs at no cost.

Attendees were also able to take advantage of free health and wellness screenings including HIV testing, blood sugar, and blood pressure testing, diabetes and pre-diabetes screenings, flu shots, lead poisoning screening for kids and more.

The event served as a collective forum to foster health promotion and prevention awareness for families and community members so that they may achieve their highest level of wellness. Health is not just the absence of disease, it is the fulfillment of one’s completely physical, mental, spiritual and social well-being.

Community partners for United for Care (U4C) included, but were not limited to, the Family Foundation of Greater Miami, Clear Health Alliance, Walgreens, the City of Miami, Food for Life Network, WMBM Gospel Radio, iHeart Radio, Florida Blue, Precision Research, Future Care, United Way, and the University of Miami Anchor Study.
