COVID-19 Booster Shots Now Available

Booster shots are now available for patients with Compromised Immune Systems and their close contacts

Third Booster ShotThe Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has approved the third dose of COVID-19 vaccinations for persons whose immune systems are compromised moderately to severely – to further boost their immune protection.

Care Resource is offering a third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine for these individuals and their close contacts.

Those that are eligible can receive booster shots BY APPOINTMENT ONLY at any of our health centers in Miami-Dade and Broward counties. A doctor’s note, prescription or proof of medical condition is not required.

Moderately to severely immunocompromised includes individuals that have:

  • Active treatment for solid tumor and hematologic malignancies
  • Receipt of solid-organ transplant and taking immunosuppressive therapy
  • Receipt of CAR-T-cell or hematopoietic stem cell transplant (within 2 years of transplantation or taking immunosuppression therapy)
  • Moderate or severe primary immunodeficiency (e.g., DiGeorge syndrome, Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome)
  • HIV infection, regardless of CD4 count
  • Active treatment with high-dose corticosteroids, alkylating agents, antimetabolites, transplant-related immunosuppressive drugs, cancer chemotherapeutic agents classified as severely immunosuppressive, tumor-necrosis (TNF) blockers, and other biologic agents that are immunosuppressive or immunomodulatory.

Anybody that requests a COVID-19 booster may have one ordered and administered by the health center if it has been 28 days since their last dose of any COVID-19 vaccine and if both the self-attestation of the COVID-19 vaccination booster and the COVID-19 booster informed consent forms have been signed. Children ages 12-17 are eligible to receive the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine provided there is parental or legal guardian consent, and the child is accompanied by an adult.

Patients with conditions such as diabetes and heart disease (but who do not have immunodeficiency) are not eligible at this time.

Please note that if one has completed the series of the Pfizer vaccine, the booster will be Pfizer. If one has completed the series of the Moderna vaccine, the booster will be Moderna. If one has received the Johnson and Johnson vaccine, the booster will be Pfizer. There is no formal recommendation regarding boosters for Johnsons and Johnson.

If one has completed the series of any other vaccine outside the United States, the booster will be Pfizer.
