What Is Advocacy?

Advocacy means speaking up for what matters. At Care Resource, it means working to protect funding, programs, and policies that help us deliver medical, dental, behavioral health, and support services to those who need it most. You don’t have to be a policy expert—just someone willing to share your experience.

Why Advocacy Matters to You

✔️ Your care depends on it. Many of the programs that make Care Resource affordable—like Medicaid and 340B—are decided by lawmakers.

✔️ Your story has power. Lawmakers make better decisions when they hear from people in the community.

✔️ Your voice shapes the future. By speaking up, you’re helping ensure that health services remain available for generations to come.

Tips for Effective Advocacy

✔️ Be Yourself – Your experience matters. Speak from the heart.
✔️ Keep It Brief – A short, honest story can be more powerful than lots of statistics.
✔️ Stay Respectful – Even if you disagree, kindness and clarity go a long way.
✔️ Ask for Action – “Please continue supporting funding for community health centers” is a great example.

Key Issues We’re Advocating For

Medicaid Access

Cuts to Medicaid would mean fewer people get the care they need. Many Care Resource patients rely on Medicaid to access doctors, medications, and screenings.

“I rely on Medicaid for my regular visits and prescriptions. Please protect this program so people like me aren’t left behind.”

Protecting the 340B Drug Pricing Program

This program helps Care Resource offer discounted medications and reinvest savings into community programs like case management and behavioral health.

“Thanks to 340B, I can afford my medications. Without it, my health—and many others’—would be at risk.”

Sustaining HIV Prevention Funding

CDC HIV prevention dollars fund testing, PrEP access, and outreach. Reductions in funding could reverse hard-earned progress.

“Care Resource helps people like me prevent HIV. This funding keeps our community healthy and safe.”

Community Health Center Funding & Caucus Support

We advocate for ongoing federal health center funding and for lawmakers to join the Community Health Centers Caucus, which champions our work.

“Please continue supporting community health centers like Care Resource. They’re a lifeline for so many of us.”

Growing the Healthcare Workforce

We support policies that train and recruit more providers to serve communities like ours—especially in primary care, behavioral health, and HIV services.

“We need more doctors and counselors in our neighborhoods. Please support legislation that grows the healthcare workforce.”

Advocacy FAQs

Do I need to be a policy expert to advocate?
No. Your lived experience is your strength. Speak from the heart.
Will advocating affect my care?
Not at all. Advocacy is voluntary and does not impact the care you receive at Care Resource.
