Care Resource Joins Community Leaders at 4Ward Americas Symposium
Care Resource sponsored the second annual 4Ward Americas: LGBTQI Human Rights, Business Expo, and Life Symposium at the Miami Beach Convention Center. 4Ward Miami is a nonprofit organization that invests in community empowerment while promoting diversity and inclusion.
Over a two-day period, the symposium featured talks concerning economic empowerment, civic engagement, spirituality, and civil rights. 4Ward Americas featured remarks by Keynote Speaker, Fred Hochberg, Chairman and President of the Export-Import Bank of the United States (2009-2017) and highest-ranking LGBTQ government official of the Obama Administration, as well as other community leaders.
The symposium provided an opportunity for learning about pressing social issues and collaborating to determine solutions. Care Resource’s Myka Osorio, PrEP Navigator, and Sheryl Zayas, D.O., Primary Care Physician, Medical Director, were included in a panel discussion on the current constraints and barriers within transgender healthcare.
The panel dispelled myths around transgender healthcare as more expensive “special care,” while emphasizing the importance of ongoing medical care that addresses the needs of transgender patients after the transition. Panelists learned that transgender healthcare addresses the specific needs of the community and that accessible healthcare is a means of empowerment for the community.
“It’s an honor for me to use my voice on behalf of the trans community. I speak on behalf of my brothers and sisters to address all these issues, as we all know that our community has been marginalized by society. We are trying to end that stigma right now.”- Myka Osorio, PrEP Navigator
