As Walgreens brings their stores to new neighborhoods, they bring with them a tradition of supporting the health needs of their patients. Dedicated to championing everyone’s right to be happy and healthy. Starting now and throughout this year’s flu season – flu shots are available for most healthy adults from Walgreens pharmacy including their in-house pharmacies located at Care Resource’s Midtown Miami and Fort Lauderdale offices.
While seasonal flu outbreaks can happen as early as October, most of the time flu activity peaks between December and February. This is a time to safeguard your health.
The flu is an unpredictable and contagious disease that can lead to hospitalization and death for people at high risk of serious complications. It is caused by a virus and generally spreads across the United States from October through May. Getting a yearly flu vaccination is one of the most important steps people can take to protect themselves, their families, and co-workers against the flu virus. The flu and the common cold have similar symptoms. It can be difficult to tell the difference between them. In general, the flu is worse than the common cold. Symptoms such as fever, body aches, tiredness, and cough are more common and intense with the flu. People with colds are more likely to have a runny or stuffy nose.
According to Lilliana Vazquez-Rivera Primary Care Physician with Care Resource, “Flu symptoms include a 100oF or higher fever or feeling feverish (not everyone with the flu has a fever), a cough and/or sore throat, a runny or stuffy nose, headaches and/or body aches, chills, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, and/or diarrhea (most common in children). Here at Care Resource, we can give you a test within the first few days of your illness to determine whether or not you have the flu. In the meantime, wash your hands often with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand rub, avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth, practice good health habits like getting plenty of sleep and exercise, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat healthy food.”
