November is Transgender Awareness Month here at Care Resource. We take this opportunity to not only highlight and celebrate the diverse experiences and identities of transgender South Floridians but to showcase the programs and services that we provide.
Medical care at Care Resource focuses on the body parts a person has, whether those are congruent with the gender identity or not. For example, an affirmed male may still have a cervix, in which case he should be followed with PAP smears. An affirmed female most likely still has a prostate, in which case she should be screened for prostate cancer at the appropriate age.
In addition to offering high quality, affordable medical management of common primary care, our providers are trained in the management of hormone treatment and follow the Guidelines on the Endocrine Treatment of Transsexuals from the Endocrine Society. Some hormones prescribed for male to female transitioning can be as affordable as $20 monthly from safe local pharmacies
Moreover, Care Resource’s therapists are State of Florida registered or licensed and meet the competency requirements for mental health professionals contained in the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) Standards of Care for the Health of Transsexual, Transgender and Gender-Nonconforming People, Version 7. Our therapists provide information and support through assessment and treatment, if needed.
