Care Resource observes National HIV/AIDS and Aging Awareness Day on September 18th

September 18 is National HIV/AIDS and Aging Awareness Day. The importance of the annual observance increases as the number of people aged 50 and older who are living with HIV continues to grow. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that people aged 55 and older accounted for 26% of the estimated 1.2 million people living with HIV infection in the United States in 2011.

HIV-related challenges facing older Americans include lack of knowledge about HIV and stigma that discourages them from seeking HIV testing and care. In older adults, HIV is too often diagnosed late in the course of the infection, leading to shorter HIV-to-AIDS intervals.

In support of both National HIV/AIDS and Aging Awareness Day and of Healthy Aging Month, Care Resource is offering free wellness screenings to new clients over the age of 45 without private or government insurance throughout the month of September. This promotion includes screenings for diabetes, cholesterol and blood pressure, and to redeem it,  one MUST first make an appointment. Please call 305-576-1234 EXT: 470 (English) and 471 (Spanish.

Moreover, if one receives a free HIV/AIDS test at the Care Resource office located on 3801 Biscayne Boulevard in Miami or the office and 871 West Oakland Park Blvd on September 18th, they will receive a complimentary grocery gift card. For HIV testing, walk-ins are accepted and no appointment is necessary.
