Care Resource has distributed new condom bowls to businesses throughout Little Havana and Miami Beach to increase access to free condoms for residents. Condoms are one of the simplest, safest and most effective ways of preventing the spread of the HIV virus. But in many neighborhoods, they are not easily accessible.
HIV testing and management services are a large part of Care Resource’s focus. Care Resource provides HIV/STD testing, HIV/STD education, PrEP/PEP services and free condoms.
According to Ron Ledain, MBA, Director of Health Promotion and Linkage Services with Care Resource, “Condoms have become more expensive, and not affordable and accessible to all. Condom distribution programs like this help businesses, local organizations and public health agencies make free condoms accessible and plentiful to prevent the spread HIV/AIDS and other Sexually Transmitted Disease (STI). Today although many people feel protected against HIV because they are on PrEP, it is important to remember that condoms are still needed to protect us against STI.”
